Note 001: Welcome
Hello! My name is Angela Morgan, and I am a photographer.
I primarily focus on commercial photography, collaborating with various studios to provide assistance and to capture compelling images. In addition to this, I specialize in event photography and portrait work, while also dedicating time to my passion for travel photography.
The first camera I remember owning was a 35mm Canon AE-1 when I was around 10 years old. Joining the local chapter of 4-H for its photography program was a pivotal moment, culminating in my first art show later that year. It was exhilarating to have an outlet for my little perspective on this big world. This experience marked the beginning of my journey into documenting life through a lens.
Formal photography education wasn't on the table until college, where I delved into the intricacies of darkroom work and print-making. This exploration deepened my love for photography by blending art, creativity, meditation, patience, technology, and science into a unique form of magic.
For many years, my career centered on the music industry—managing and booking bands, hosting concerts and events, and overseeing a Marketing Department at a community music school. A decade spent in that realm revealed that my role as house photographer was the part I cherished most, prompting a shift towards spending more time behind the camera and less in a traditional desk job.
During this transition, I spent my nights rollerskating with the Brewcity Bruisers Roller Derby League, where I met my first photography mentor, Dione White. This connection led to my inaugural freelance opportunity as a Photo Assistant in commercial photography at Kohls Photo Studio, setting the stage for my future in the field.
Over the next decade, I worked alongside several photographers and commercial photo studios while also conducting my own photo shoots. My journey began with portraits of musicians and transitioned into concert photography, event and wedding photography, family portraits, travel photography, and eventually commercial photography. Since 2020, I have been collaborating frequently with Samuel Reed, the Lead Photographer at Kohler Co, as his Assistant Photographer. This experience has been invaluable, allowing me to learn from a talented, technical, and passionate photographer who motivates me to push my boundaries and think creatively.
Currently, my focus is on commercial photography, particularly in the areas of product, lifestyle, portraits, and travel photography. It is deeply fulfilling to be part of a team that creates impactful imagery, where each day brings new photographic adventures. The diverse range of creative concepts, varied clients, collaborative teammates, and unique locations keeps my work dynamic and inspiring, fostering continuous growth in my craft.
I am truly thankful for the mentors I’ve encountered and the opportunities that have allowed me to thrive in this vibrant field. Life is too short not to pursue what you love, to discover the passion that motivates you to engage wholeheartedly in your work each day.
